Easter is so close! I’ve already crocheted a little funny Easter chick and finished the pattern, but I’ve decided I have time for another colorful Easter decoration. So here is an easy to crochet Easter basket applique 🙂
What you’ll need?
- Cotton and acrylic yarn (I’ve used Alize Cotton Gold)
- 2,5 mm crochet hook
- Felt for the eggs and the basket back
- Sewing needle and thread
- Felt flower and lady bug (optional)
To crochet the Easter basket applique, you would need the following skills:
- crocheting a chain
- single crochet (sc)
- reverse single crochet (rsc)
- double crochet (dc)
- double crochet in back loop only (BLdc) (if you are a beginner, do not worry, you can crochet simple double crochet)
- slip stitch
- increase
Let’s start…
Chain 22 chain stitches
Increase in 3rd chain away from the hook, crochet 18 dc, increase in last chain st (at the end you will have 22dc), chain 2 and turn (this 2 chain stitches do not count as dc)
From now on crochet dc in back loops only: increase in first stitch, crochet 20 dc, increase in last st (24); chain 2 and turn
Increase in first st, crochet 22 dc in back loop only, increase in last st (26), chain 2 and turn
Increase in first st, crochet 24 dc in back loop only, increase in last st (28), chain 2 and turn
Increase in first st, crochet 26 dc in back loop only, increase in last st (30), chain 2 and turn
Increase in first st, crochet 28 dc in back loop only, increase in last st (32), chain 2 and turn
Increase in first st, crochet 30 dc in back loop only, increase in last st (34), chain 2 and turn
Increase in first st, crochet 32 dc in back loop only, increase in last st (36), chain 2 and turn
Crochet 36 dc in back loop (36), chain 1 and crochet sc all over the edges (crochet 2 sc in every corner of the basket applique)
Basket handle:
When you finish crocheting the basket edges, do not cut the yarn; crochet 55 chain stitches and attach the chain to the other side of the basket with a sc;
Chain 1 and turn, crochet 55 sc crochet till the opposite end;
Chain 1, crochet another 55 reverse sc crochet.; finish with a slip stitch. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Now it’s time for some embellishments.
Using felt I’ve cut one peace in green (as my basket is crocheted in green) to sew it to the basket back.
Leave the felt piece a little bit longer than the basket. There you’ll sew/glue the eggs.
Using felt in different colors cut 3 or 4 pieces.
Then using sewing needle and thread or appropriate glue, attach the eggs to the basket as shown on the picture below:
Finally, if you want you can add another small details to the basket – felt flowers, butterflies, lady bugs…just let your imagination do the work 🙂
Happy Easter!
